TODAY'S REFLECTION
As we reflect on today's readings, we are reminded of the importance of accepting the crosses of our lives with humility and faith. In Psalm 51:17, David writes, "The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart; these, O God, you will not despise." Despite facing rebellion from his own son Absalom, David chooses not to despair, but instead acknowledges his sin against God and accepts the consequences with a humble heart (2 Samuel 15:13-14, 30).
In the Gospel, Jesus teaches us that only God has the power to overcome the forces of darkness, and that no human being can do so on their own (Matthew 16:26, Mark 8:36). As Jesus says, "What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36). This reminds us that the salvation of our souls is of utmost importance, and that we should not prioritize material possessions or earthly gains over our spiritual well-being.
As Christians, let us cherish and value human life above all material things, remembering that "man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions" (Luke 12:15). May we always prioritize our relationship with God and seek to live a life that is pleasing to Him, even in the face of challenges and difficulties. As the apostle Paul writes, "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21). May we live with this mindset, always seeking to glorify God and prioritize the salvation of our souls.
