THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

The Light of Christ: Reflection for Today 22/09/2025

The light of the world

The purpose of lighting a lamp is to dispel darkness and brighten the space around it. A lamp only fulfills its mission when it is placed on a stand, allowing its light to reach others. In the same way, Jesus reminds us that He is the true source of light:

> "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12)

This powerful statement shows us that without Christ, we stumble in spiritual darkness. But with Him, our path is illuminated, guiding us toward eternal life. Just as a lamp exposes what is hidden, Jesus exposes truth and reveals God’s love.

Living in the Light of Christ

The Bible also calls us to reflect this light to others:

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house." (Matthew 5:14-15)

This means that Christians are not only receivers of Christ’s light but also carriers of it. Our lives should shine in holiness, compassion, and truth, leading others out of darkness.

St. Padre Pio: A Witness of Light

St. Padre Pio lived this calling with extraordinary faith. He allowed Christ’s light to transform his soul, and in turn, his life radiated holiness, prayer, and sacrifice. Through his example, many were led closer to God, experiencing peace and conversion.

Our Mission: Be Light-Bearers

We are all called to be lampstands for Christ’s light. The way we live, speak, and act should help others see God’s presence. As Scripture says:

> "For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light." (Ephesians 5:8)

By embracing Christ, we not only find clarity for our own journey but also become instruments of hope for others.

Conclusion

Jesus, the Light of the World, dispels the darkness of sin and death. Just as a lamp brightens its surroundings, we are called to reflect His light in our daily lives. Let us walk in the footsteps of Christ and, like Padre Pio, radiate His love so that "those who enter may see the light." (Luke 11:33)
